STAFFORD — Members of the Stafford Regional Airport Authority listened to a presentation by local businessman Howard Owen regarding marketing on Tuesday.
Owen has owned and operated Stafford Printing for 25 years. He recently partnered with an associate to start a marketing business. He has been hired by the authority to market the airport.
He said he has a list of 50 possible clients he intends to approach. He wants to reach out to a select group of people as opposed to a “shotgun approach.”
“We have a great facility here and we need to show it off,” Owen said.
Bringing in a marketing specialist for the authority has long been a goal of the body.
In addition, an upgrade of the runway was discussed. A goal is to lengthen the runway and upgrade the surface. Doing so would allow present aircraft to maximize their capabilities. It would not change the type of aircraft that use the airport, according to the authority.
Upgrading the surface would allow the aircraft to use the facility to their maximum capability while without reducing its life expectancy. And by doing so, it would encourage companies to house their aircraft there.
The authority voted to move ahead on financing a design for a terminal for the airport. The present facility is a temporary structure that is rented.
Authority members paid tribute to Prince William County member Vernon Torney. The day marked Torney’s last meeting. He has served on the body for 16 years.
