As we all know, the sixth installment of the Harry Potter Series, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” was released in theaters last week. We decided to stop into a local theater to check out the movie and see for ourselves what fans were saying about it.
David Yates, who directed “The Order of the Phoenix,” returned this year to direct “The Half-Blood Prince.” With a running time of about two and a half hours, the film contains plenty of adventure too keep one’s mind irresistibly intrigued the entire time.
Harry, Ron and Hermione have matured a great deal since they first entered Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In this latest installment, the students are faced with forces of evil like He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and Death Eaters and less evil essays and tests. Teenage hormones make an appearance, as well. The mix of love potions and heroism brews romance among the students and even a fit of jealousy.
The cinematography is excellent. The film is filled with a lot of special effects and beautiful scenery. From tall, dark castle corridors, to snow-covered mountains, the film takes you across a wide array of settings.
When asked if he was scared at all during the movie, Jason R., 9, of Stafford said, “Yes! I even closed my eyes two times!”
I asked Bethany C., 17, if she thought seeing it in the theater had increased the experience of the movie, she said, “Yes, without a doubt. The theater was rumbling sometimes during the movie, and the loud noises made me jump too!”
Over all the reactions from the moviegoers were very positive. I could hear laughter and a few screams inside the theater as I watched.
“I enjoyed the movie a lot,” said a father of one of the viewers. “My wife and I had as much fun as the kids did. We definitely recommend it for the whole family.”
I am no film critic, but I enjoyed this film and highly recommend it for a family outing.
It will not only entertain you but also give you and others something to talk about as it is currently rated as the No. 1 movie in America, according to WarnerBros.com.
