Ruth Ann Balderson
Ruth Ann Balderson, 75, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at her home.

Survivors include her sons, T. Troy Balderson Sr. of Fredericksburg and Bart Alan Balderson of Stafford; a grandson; her mother, Ruth W. McWhirt of Heritage Hall; her brother, James McWhirt of Lusby, Maryland; two nieces; one nephew; numerous cousins; and many devoted friends.

She proceeded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Balderson; her son, Heath Balderson; her brother, Charles McWhirt; and her father, Roswell McWhirt.

Services were held June 29 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, with interment following in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Pkwy., Fredericksburg, Va. 22407 or First Christian Church, 1501 Washington Ave., Fredericksburg, VA. 22401.

Doris J. Berry
Doris J. Berry, of Falmouth, died June 26, 2009, at Greenfields Assisted Living.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward H. and Margaret J. Jones; and her two brothers, William E. and Harold A. Jones.

Survivors include her husband, Travers Berry; her son, Will Berry of Ashburn; her brother, Edward R. Jones of Fredericksburg; and three grandchildren.

A service was held June 30 at Falmouth Baptist Church, with interment following in Falmouth Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Falmouth Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 2220 Warrenton Road, Fredericksburg, Va., 22406.

James W. "Jimmy" Cooke
James W. "Jimmy" Cooke, 74, died June 24, 2009, following a brief illness, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Rita Shepherd Cooke; nine children, Betsy C. Shifflett of Spotsylvania County, Bob Cooke of Dover, Del., Tony Clarke of Crystal Cove, Fla., Kim Cooke-Lambert of Stafford, Kristie Hurst of Fredericksburg, Kerry Cooke of Fredericksburg, Kathie Cooke of King George, Lisa Hilchey of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Amanda Cooke of Fredericksburg; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A Service of Remembrance was held June 27 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, with interment following in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50 Memphis, TN 38101.

Tina Marie DeCarbo
Thomasina "Tina" Marie DeCarbo, 53, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Survivors include her husband, Anthony DeCarbo; her children, Cindy Janay of Jacksonville, N.C., Anthony DeAngelo of Navarre, Fla., and Adam DeAngelo of Stafford; her parents, Thomas and Mary Rozzi of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Rosalind Campbell and Jane Stiegler, both of Fredericksburg; and five grandchildren.

A service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m., July 2, at St. Mary Catholic Church.

Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, is handling the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, c/o Trudy Clifton, 113 Tallpines Avenue, Locust Grove, Virginia, 22508.

Carl Eugene Durgan
Carl Eugene Durgan, 49 of Stafford, died Monday, June 22, after a long battle with brain cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Agnes Durgan;

Survivors include six brothers and sisters, Brenda MacBryde of Spotsylvania, Mae Niles of Massena, N.Y., Sheila Bordeau of Watertown, N.Y.; Edward Durgan of Malone, N.Y., Joseph Durgan of Upper Jay, N.Y., and Sandra Seguin of Norfolk, N.Y.; 11 nieces and nephews; and 13 great-nieces and grand-nephews.

A funeral service was held June 26 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Interment was private.

Tristen Tyler Krohn
Tristen Tyler Krohn, of Stafford, born into life September 19, 2004, born into eternal life June 25, 2009. Tristen is survived by his parents Kerry and Robin; 2 brothers, Dylan Michael and Brendon Lee; his uncle, Michael Parker and his wife Harriett; grandparents, Richie “Poppy” and Cindy “Grammy” Fowler, Frank “Paw Paw” and Paula “Maw Maw” Parker, and “Gramma” Catherine Sissy Welborn; great-grandmother, “Gramma” Arvel P. Shannon; Uncle Frank Parker, III; Aunt Christina Pittinger and her husband Ryan, best friend and cousin, Christopher Pittinger and many many other relatives.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Spotsylvania Church of God 12240 Five Mile Road in Fredericksburg, VA 22553 on June 30 from 6 -9 pm where a funeral service will be held on July 1 at 2 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Sloan Funeral Service, Dale City, VA.

Reva Parrott Lee
Reva Parrott Lee, 87, of Stafford County, died Friday, June 19, 2009 at Stafford Hospital Center.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Millard Lee; three daughters, Jacquelyn Lee Adler of Lanham, Md., Diana Lee Taylor of Manassas, and Saundra Lee-Oliver of Gaithersburg, Md.; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren, Shane Keith Sendaj and Emilee Diana Sendaj.

Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford, handled the arrangements.

A graveside service was held June 23 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fredericksburg.

Thomas M. "Mack" Moncure
Thomas M. "Mack" Moncure, 88, of Stafford, died Saturday, June 27, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Harriet Spangler Moncure.

Survivors include his four children, Thomas M. Moncure Jr. of Prince William County, Nancy Moncure Stikes, Becky Moncure Herndon, and Peyton "Tudy" Moncure Morris, all of Rockbridge County; their spouses; and nine grandchildren.

A service was held June 30 at Aquia Episcopal Church with, with interment following in Aquia Episcopal Church Cemetery.

Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford handled the arrangements.

Nicholas Boyd Primo
Nicholas Boyd Primo, 23 months, of Spotsylvania County died Sunday, June 28, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ruth Cutright and his uncle, Boyd Cutright.

Survivors include his parents, Anthony and Christine Cutright Primo; paternal grandparents, Frank and Janet Primo of Monaca, Pennsylvania; maternal grandparents, Harold Cutright and his wife, Janice of Stafford; paternal great-grandfather, Samuel LoFaso of Pittsburgh, Pa.; twin sisters, Madison and Abigail; aunts and uncles; and several cousins.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m., July 2, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, is handling arrangements.

William Talbot Shamburg
William Talbot Shamburg, 74, of Stafford County, died Sunday, June 21 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.

He was preceded in death by his son, Billy Shamburg Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Shamburg of Stafford; son Michael Shamburg of Alexandria; daughter, Bonnie Coleman of Dale City; two stepchildren, Rick Williams, and Dawn Williams; two brothers, Patrick Shamburg of Missouri and Larry Shamburg of Dale City; two sisters, Rosemary Kramer of Oakton and Alberta Shamburg of Dumfries; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his best friend, Hanna.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on July 8, at Grove Baptist Church. Interment will be private.

Leonard Bernard Toombs
Leonard Bernard Toombs, 69, of Stafford, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bessie Toombs; and his siblings, George Toombs Jr., Johnny Toombs and Bessie Tate.

Survivors include his brother, Jesse Toombs of Idaho; his sisters, Mildred Lenox of Decatur, Alabama, Barbara Adkins of Sharpsburg, Maryland, and Ellen Toombs of Spotsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at noon, July 3, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., July 2, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Virginia Future Farmers of America, 206 Litton Reaves Hall (0343), Blacksburg, VA 24061.
