Jean Boswell Oravits

Jean Boswell Oravits, 76, of Spotsylvania County, died at her home Monday, Sept. 21, 2009.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, retired USMC Lt. Col. Joseph Oravits; three sons, Jon Zitz of Stafford County, Robert Zitz of Alexandria, and Michael Zitz of Spotsylvania; four sisters, Delsie McKelvey of Stafford, Dot Leach of Newbern, Tenn., Doris Sears of Henderson, Texas, and Tanya Reath of Riverton, N.J.; two brothers, Billy Boswell and Ricky Boswell, both of Stafford; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Boswell and Ada Abel Boswell of Boswell's Corner, Stafford; two brothers, Bobby Boswell and Charlie Boswell; and two sisters Muriel Hopp and Charlotte Welchman.

A funeral service was held Sept. 28 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg with interment following in Quantico National Cemetery.

Jack Thorhauer

Wilson John “Jack” Thorhauer Jr., 66, of Stafford County died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Ruth Thorhauer; his son, John Thorhauer of Pinckney, Mich.; his daughter, Janet Lower of Stafford; his brother, Jim Thorhauer of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Oct. 1 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1201 Courthouse Road, with interment following in Quantico National Cemetery.

Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel, handled the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Stafford Rescue Squad #1, Box 414, Stafford, VA 22555.

Jim Whalen

Jim Whalen, 70, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at his residence in Stafford County.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Marilyn; his daughter, Lynda Tellers of Pasadena, Calif.; his daughter, Kathleen Caudle of Pensacola, Fla.; his son, Gary Westphal of Sterling; his sisters, Charlotte Marshall of Lakehead, Calif., Frances, and Karen, of Northern Calif.; numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

A Celebration of Life was held Sept. 27 at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at a later date in Colby, Wis. at St. Mary Catholic Church, with interment following in Colby Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to the Aquia Host Lions Club, Attn: Bob Hunt for Whalen Memorial Fund, 1020 Isabella Drive, Stafford, VA 22554.
