STAFFORD — David C. Gandy, 48, of Myrtle Road in south Stafford, was fatally shot Sunday, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

Gandy was in his back yard with a gun threatening to shoot himself if he saw or heard the police, according to information that a family member relayed to police.

When deputies arrived at the residence at about 11 p.m., they ordered Gandy to show his hands, but Gandy reportedly ignored the commands. He was also concealing a handgun, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies deployed two taserless lethal weapons that were ineffective, according to a sheriff’s office press release. Gandy then turned his head in the direction of the deputies and was shot and killed, according to Bill Kennedy, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

Four deputies have been placed on routine administrative leave pending investigation of the incident.
