Wanted men arrested during traffic stop

GARRISONVILLE — Two wanted criminals from Minnesota were arrested April 25 on Interstate 95 after a traffic stop, reported Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Bill Kennedy on Monday.

While patrolling the former Aquia Towne Center — now the Town Center at Aquia — on the afternoon of April 25, Stafford County Deputy Lance Barley noted a white Ford Ranger pickup truck sporting an expired state inspection sticker traveling north on U.S. 1.

He followed the pickup onto Interstate 95 where the driver attempted to keep several cars between him and Barley. The deputy activated his lights and got behind the driver and pulled him over, according to a police report.

When asked for registration, the driver, Denzel Ball Jr., 41, of Courage Lane in Stafford, said it was not his. He stated that he did not have a license, though he was not certain if it was suspended or not. It was subsequently found that he had no license. It was also found that he was wanted in Duluth, Minn., for a charge of distribution of methamphetamines.

He was taken into custody.

A passenger in the car, Bryan Conners of Soulier Lane in Fredericksburg, was found to be wanted on charges of forgery, theft, uttering and a probation violation. He, also, was taken into custody.

Various drug paraphernalia was also discovered in the car.
Ball was charged with possession of schedule 1 or 2 controlled narcotics and incarcerated with no bond.

Conners is being held with no bond.

IHOP employee assaulted, robbed
GARRISONVILLE — An International House of Pancakes employee was assaulted and robbed as he walked away from his place of employment at about 11:40 p.m. on April 26, reported Stafford County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Bill Kennedy on Monday.

As the victim walked into an unlit portion of Worth Avenue, a black Acura with a “loud muffler and blue undercarriage lights,” said Kennedy, drove toward him. A black male about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing about 170-180 pounds, and wearing a black beanie and black shirt, got out of the car and ran at him with a knife.

As the victim fled, the car cut off his escape. It stopped and from it emerged a Hispanic male wearing a “wife beater” undershirt, blue jean shorts and carrying a baseball bat according to a police report. With him was a “tall thin black male with chin-length dreadlocks and wearing black pants.”

They pushed the victim about and asked from his money, according to the report. After giving them an undisclosed amount of cash they began beating him, hitting him several times in the back with the baseball bat and “possibly” slashing his arm with a knife.
The victim was able to get to some friends, Kennedy said, who took him back to the IHOP.

Anyone with information regarding this offense is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at (540) 658-4400 or Crime Solvers at (540) 650-2020.
Pa. man flees police in Aquia Harbour

AQUIA— A Pennsylvania man fleeing the Virginia State Police drove into Aquia Harbour in an attempt to elude them shortly after 9 p.m. on April 27.
Brandon Schoff, 23, of Pittsburgh, Pa., was arrested and jailed, reported Stafford County

Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Bill Kennedy on Monday.

Deputy Roger Chinault was dispatched to the area to lend assistance, as were other deputies. The driver was reported traveling south on Interstate 95 from Prince William County in a stolen tan Acura with the Virginia State Police in pursuit. The officer stopped pursuit on Garrisonville Road when pursuing the man became too great a risk, according to Kennedy.

Schoff had turned into Aquia Harbour, still attempting to elude authorities, and drove at speeds of 45 to 55 miles per hour. At one time he nearly swerved into a man and his boy walking their dog for no “apparent reason,” said Kennedy.

Along with other deputies and a state policeman, Chinault was able to pin him in a cul de sac and take him into custody.

Schoff was charged with felony eluding, reckless driving and possession of stolen property, the latter including a driver’s license and credit cards other than his own. He was incarcerated in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Ford Windstar van stolen on highway

STAFFORD — A green 1995 Ford Windstar with a Wisconsin registration was stolen from near the 147 mile-marker on the northbound lane of Interstate 95 between April 26 -28, reported Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Bill Kennedy on Tuesday.

The victim parked his van near the marker on the previous Saturday evening due to a “faulty alternator,” said Kennedy. He made his way to Aquia Car Care Center on Jefferson Davis Highway to make arrangements to have it towed for repair.

Later, it could not be found. Towers were notified but they had no record of the vehicle being towed, nor did the Virginia State Police. It was determined the only way to move the van was to have it towed.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this offense is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at (540) 658-4400 or Crime Solvers at (540) 650-2020.
