K-9 helps police find wanted man
STAFFORD — With the help of a K-9 deputy, a wanted man was arrested by Stafford deputies May 2, reported Stafford County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Bill Kennedy on May 8.
Deputies responded to a call that a great deal of yelling and screaming was taking place at a Pilot Knob Loop residence. In addition, it was reported that a wanted man, Roger Wood, 32, of King George County was there.
Upon arriving, the deputy heard the door lock and great deal of movement inside. Once the door was opened, he was met by two females. When asked if the wanted man was there a reply came that he was in the attic, according to a police report.
Backup was brought in, including one K-9. Before entering the attic, the deputy announced that if Wood did not give up they would be coming to get him with the help of the K-9. Wood did not reply. With the help of the K-9, the search began.
Wood was found in the back of the attic, hiding beneath insulation. He was arrested for obstruction of justice and for outstanding warrants of grand larceny and failure to appear in court.
Manager discovers damaged property
STAFFORD — The manager of Guarantee Automaxx arrived at work the morning of May 12 to find the ceiling of his office had caved in, reported Stafford County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Bill Kennedy on Tuesday.
He first thought was that heavy rains the night before had caused the damage. However, a neighboring businessman informed him that his back door had been tampered with. He checked and found that the door had been forced open. He later found also that a 2003 red Ford Explorer was stolen from the property, the thief possibly having gained entrance to the office through the ceiling, according to a police report.
Wanted man found with cocaine
FALMOUTH — Noting a broken right brake light on a four-door Nissan in the area of Michael and Cambridge Streets, a Stafford deputy pulled the driver over shortly after 1 a.m. on May 5, reported Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Bill Kennedy on May 8.
The driver, Juan Guzman, 27, of Memorial Street in Alexandria, was identified and found to be wanted in Fairfax County for failure to appear on a possession of schedule one narcotics. He was handcuffed and taken into custody.
A subsequent search of his car found several small baggies of crack cocaine in cigarette pack.
He was arrested for the failure to appear warrant from Fairfax and charged in Stafford County for a schedule one narcotic with the attempt to distribute. He was incarcerated in the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
Two men arrested for stealing piping
FALMOUTH — Two local men were arrested for attempting to steal construction materials from a site near Leeland Road on the afternoon of May 7, reported Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Bill Kennedy on May 8.
Sgt. Alex Smith responded to a call of two men looking through a box of “various metals” on a construction site in the area, said Kennedy.
He spotted the truck and stopped them. In the back of the pickup were found about 15 pieces of piping from three to six inches in diameter and “fork lift type pieces of metals.”
The owners of the construction company were called and they reported the two men had no permission to be on the site.
Charged for grand larceny, possession of stolen property with the intent to distribute, and conspiracy to commit larceny were Stephen McKinnon, 54, and Michael Kearney, 51, both of Cambridge Street.
McKinnon was incarcerated with no bond, Kearny with a $3,000 bond.
