Stafford Hospital Center, which will open its doors Feb. 27, could not come at a better time.
Most importantly, Stafford residents will greatly benefit from a hospital close to their homes. If a dire emergency were to happen to any one of us, or to a family member, we’d all surely be thankful that a hospital is so close by. As we all know, some emergencies don’t give us much time to wait for an ambulance to arrive.
And luckily, Stafford has well-trained law enforcement, as well as fire and emergency services responders in the county — many of them volunteers — who have had to respond to many emergencies.
But the comfort of having a community hospital is a big plus for Stafford, and one that is welcomed.
Mary Washington and Potomac hospitals have served us well, and will surely continue to do so in many cases, but the addition of Stafford Hospital Center will likely be an asset all around. If fewer patients are waiting at all of the hospitals involved, we’d guess there would be less room for an overwhelming, crowded atmosphere in each facility.
In these economic tough times, the hospital is also coming at a very good moment, when people are pinching pennies and struggling to keep or find jobs. As far as economic development goes, Stafford County needed a hospital and this is a giant step in the right direction.
