STAFFORD — One of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” has made its way to Stafford County.
SRA International, chosen for nine consecutive years by “Fortune” magazine as one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For,” has settled in at the Towne Center at Aquia — the plaza it will call home. Last week, the company held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate its arrival.
Although the satellite office of the large company arrived in early October, the Jan. 8 ribbon cutting gave the business a chance to officially make its presence known.
SRA is a provider of technology and strategic consulting services and solutions to government organizations and commercial clients. The SRA office in Stafford will serve as a focal point for the company’s growth in the Stafford area, broadening SRA’s current connection to the Quantico region. It will do this through intelligence analysis, acquisition, networks, security and management consulting services that it provides in support of the U.S. Marine Corps at Quantico.
“For SRA, our presence in Stafford provides our current and future customers direct and close access to the SRA team members that support the Marine Corps missions,” said SRA’s Director of Marine Corps Programs, John Pross. “With a secure system development lab, multiple conference rooms and a dedicated telework center, SRA brings flexibility and the capability for rapid response to address our customers' emerging needs.”
Pross said that SRA’s contract awarded to the company in March 2007, related to the Marine Corps, has an estimated value of $33 million. The figure amounts to a period of five years if all options are exercised.
Headquartered in Farifax, the company and its subsidiaries employ more than 6,600 employees.
At last week’s ribbon-cutting in Stafford, Stafford County Supervisor Paul Milde, R-Aquia, was among local attendees. Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce officials also attended, said Pross.
Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce President Bob Hagen extended a welcome to SRA.
“…With this new facility, SRA provides the surrounding community with new opportunities for local employment and a telework capability with robust connectivity for those who can avail themselves of this to improve their commute and quality of life,” he said.
There are nine employees providing support work for the U.S. Marine Corps, and seven subcontractors working in the Stafford SRA office, according to Pross.
“It’s a very busy job. “I don’t have a lot of time off,” said Pross. “…I love working here and don’t have to commute north.”
Pross, who lives in The Plains, has been with SRA since 2004.
Pross said he’s pleased to see that SRA’s location has allowed for some of his coworkers to obtain their jobs close to home instead of having to make long commutes.
