Owning a pet worthwhile in any economy
To own a pet takes a lot of responsibility: buying food, keeping up with animal medications and vet bills. All of this is not getting any cheaper with today’s tight economy, but if you are clipping coupons, keep an open eye out for “animal specials” with food, pet supplies, goodies/treats, etc.
Owning a pet is not much of an expense if you know the in’s and out’s, like special bargains online, animal catalogues and newspapers — look just about anywhere for your best friend!
Last year, my husband and I went to the Northern Virginia Sheltie Rescue where I just fell in love with the cutest, lovely, friendly, but yet a very shy sheltie! We looked at her records with the sheltie’s foster mom and all her shots were up to date. She eats a measured portion twice a day from a five-pound bag of vet-recommended food. It takes three to four months for her to finish the bag.
I just keep an eye out for the special goodies that are on sale and use those coupons. I treat my pet right so the veterinarian bills do NOT run up. All in all owning a pet, whereas mine is a small pet, is not too much to handle in today’s “tight- fisted” economy.
