Hospital's Courthouse Road entrance to officially open Tuesday

STAFFORD — On Tuesday at 12:30 p.m., following a brief ribbon cutting ceremony, MediCorp Health System and Stafford County will officially open the Courthouse Road entrance to Stafford Hospital Center’s medical campus. Located east of U.S. 1 on Courthouse Road, the entrance will provide another main access point to the hospital medical campus.

The opening of this entrance has been an important project for MediCorp Health System and for Stafford County for several reasons.

The Courthouse Road entrance provides a safe entrance and exit to Stafford Hospital. Turning lanes for both east and westbound traffic were added on Courthouse Road. This creates a safer turning zone and alleviates potential congestion on Courthouse Road if traffic would have to stop behind turning vehicles.

A second entrance to the Stafford Hospital Center campus helps to alleviate traffic at its U.S. 1 entrance. In addition, if for any reason the U.S.1 entrance would need to be closed during an emergency, the Courthouse Road entrance provides an appropriate and safe alternative for all traffic on the campus.

Stafford Hospital’s Courthouse entrance has been designed so that residents who live and drive in the area can continue to enjoy an aesthetically pleasing environment.

Water lines and storm water drainage lines were installed in conjunction with the boulevard extension to support continued county and MediCorp expansion in this area.

The completion of Hospital Center Boulevard includes a dedicated wetlands area encompassing approximately 2.6 acres, and is available for walking, enjoying the plant and animal life, and as a living classroom.

MediCorp is committed to safety and high quality services on all of our medical campuses. The extension of Hospital Center Boulevard to Courthouse Road provides a safe environment for all traffic, as well as accommodate not only the necessary infrastructure but the preservation of our beautiful wetlands area,” said Walt Kiwall, chief operating officer of MediCorp Heath System. “We are pleased that we have been able to accomplish all of our goals to the benefit of area residents as well as patients, visitors, first responders, staff, physicians, volunteers and others seeking care on our campus.”

Hospital Center Boulevard’s extension has been a major project on Stafford Hospital Center’s campus. Spanning a period of 12 months, with a cost of $5 million, the new road includes several additional features such as an extension on the east campus of approximately 1,680 feet long (Care Lane to Courthouse Road) and a total length of the boulevard from Courthouse Road to Jefferson David Highway (U.S. 1) of 3,540 feet.

It is estimated that 4,800 vehicles will travel on Hospital Center Boulevard per day.
