STAFFORD — City police arrested a man for assault and battery, abduction, breaking and entering, public intoxication, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and destruction of property.

Matthew Brandon Knight, 21, of Fredericksburg allegedly had a heated argument with his girlfriend in the 2000 block Lafayette Blvd on Monday at 12:15 a.m.

The altercation soon made its way outside to the parking lot, where Knight threw a can of beer at his girlfriend, according to a police report. At this point, the reporting party told Knight he had to leave and escorted the woman back inside.

Knight then kicked in the door to the apartment, causing damage to the lock and doorframe, grabbed his girlfriend, and began to assault her.

The reporting party then called police. However, Knight and the girlfriend were no longer at the apartment when officers arrived, police said.

While officers were obtaining information, another call was received reporting that a woman was being assaulted behind the East Coast gas station on Lafayette Blvd in Fredericksburg.

Knight and his girlfriend were located in the field behind East Coast, and the 17-year-old female had torn clothes and numerous marks and scratches on her face, chest and arms. She was also intoxicated.

Knight was incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
