Stafford graduate deploys with fellow sailors, Marines
Navy Seaman Alexandra K. Hopkins-Slayton, a 2007 graduate of Colonial Forge High School, along with sailors and Marines from the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group in Norfolk, and the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit in Camp Lejeune, N.C., recently deployed to support Maritime Security Operations, provide crisis response capability and increase theater security cooperation and forward Naval presence in the Fifth and Sixth Fleet areas of operation.

Hopkins-Slayton joined the Navy in September 2007.

Brooke Point graduate new Airman
Air Force Airman Christina L. Anable graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Anable earned distinction as an honor graduate.

The daughter of Thomas and Susan Anable of Stafford, Anable graduated in 2004 from Brooke Point High School and received an associate’s degree in 2008 from Germanna Community College.

Local graduates in Iraq
Department of the Army Civilian Dustin Colson participated in the first college graduation ceremony held for American service members in Iraq at the Al Faw Palace at Camp Victory, Baghdad.

He was one of 79 students from 21 schools who received their degrees during the ceremony. The education center allows service members to take online courses and offers core classes in a classroom setting.

Colson received an associate degree from Central Texas College at Killeen.

He is an Army field representative employed at the Army Education Services in Balad, Iraq.

Colson is the son of Randall and Christine Colson of Fredericksburg.

North Stafford High graduate finishes basic training
Army Pvt. Dominique D. Jones has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, in Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills. He also studied military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, as well as drill and ceremony, marching and rifle marksmanship training.

He is the son of Steven Jones of Culpeper and Mary Jones of Stafford.

The private is a 2007 graduate of North Stafford High School.
