Reader addresses economy, swine flu
I want to thank the Stafford County Sun for the helpful information in the insert “Economical Living.” At these times it is important to know what and how to better favor the wallet and to nourish ourselves greener and healthier. There is a lot of smart and beneficial information that can be put to earth friendly use!
In addition, recovery from the Swine Flu illness looks like its happening quickly, and this sure comes as a relief to hear. We still need to keep an open eye by using our common sense and by practicing general hygiene and avoiding the “just in case” symptoms.
I would also like to thank the health care providers who have tested individuals at schools and surrounding areas, and the Virginia Department of Health for the health tips. We need to keep ourselves and our neighbors healthy and safe.

Stimpson supporter sounds off
I am very excited to read that Susan Stimpson is going to be running for the Stafford County Board of Supervisors. I have known Susan for years through her efforts as the coordinator of the annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner and I know that Stafford County will be well served by this intelligent, energetic and hard-working woman. Susan has a clear vision for our future and if she puts the same drive and determination that she exhibited in her other endeavors, into her work on the board, the residents of Falmouth will have a leader of whom they will be very proud. Susan's pro business position is exactly what we need to try and reverse the recent mistakes made by the current majority on the board. We need the better jobs and increased tax revenue that new business brings to Stafford in order to keep and improve our quality of life and lower the tax burden on the residents. Good luck Susan!

Resident discusses first 100 days
I’m inclined to believe it is much too soon to be issuing grades on the new administration’s performance. What Obama is doing right or what he is doing wrong, or how much damage or good he has done, will certainly be divulged by history, and it won’t take all that long, but for now we can only focus on his trends and “programs.” What scares me more than what President Obama is doing is what the American people and the Democrat-dominated Congress is doing. If we are to believe the polls, the majority of Americans actually approve of billions being spent on bank and automobile manufacturer bailouts, huge increases in the size of the Federal government, the takeover by government of banks and car companies, government spending that will put our future generations into perpetual debt and the most radical leap toward socialism ever attempted in our modern history. The ground work for this populous approval, I believe, has been laid by past generations falling prey to the Dr. Spock theory of raising their children, and the continued urbanization of America. We now have at least two generations that have been raised on instant gratification, to be heavily material goods oriented; “what's in it for me” generations, who believe not in what they can do for their country, but what their country can do for them...the government's job is to take care of me.
As this urbanization continues, we have created large voting blocks of these people, who are red meat for the power-hungry Democrats. Our failure in America's “modern” and “progressive” education systems to teach our children all aspects of American and international history, truthfully, gives these generations no basis upon which to know or understand what has happened to countries around the world who went this way. Yes, this administration, so far, has been truly "transformational." It is sad that this "transformation" may end up being the death knoll for the Constitution, as drafted by our founding fathers, and the American Republic that millions have loved, believed in, fought for, and died for. God bless America.
