STAFFORD — The Stafford Regional Airport convened its monthly meeting Tuesday with a new member.
Hamilton Palmer took the place of longtime member Mike Wood as Fredericksburg's member on the body.
"I'm looking forward to working with the authority to help make the airport the economic engine it can be. The next step: to bring it forward in economic development," he said in an interview following the meeting.
Peters has been involved with the construction of the airport since the mid 1990s. He has been a resident of the area since 1988.
During the meting, the board discussed approaches on marketing the airport.
Members indicated they would like to attract corporations to the airport, but before they do, they want a plan that has a high possibility of success.
Fredericksburg representative Thurman Campbell suggested disseminating literature at Oshgosh Fly-in, a popular annual event in Wisconsin. However, treasurer and former Chairman Walt George did not see it as an appropriate venue, as Oshgosh would attract more recreational flyers as opposed to corporate clientele.
Prince William representative Desi Arnaiz suggested the possibility of authority members making personal contact with perspective clients.
Nothing more specific was proposed. The authority will undertake those discussions in the upcoming months.
Airport Manager Ed Wallis said he had meetings with several law enforcement groups concerning security at FPED VIII, the annual high tech exhibition scheduled for May of next year.
