WOODBRIDGE - The official account of what happened over the weekend at a Woodbridge car wash, where two people were struck by an SUV, has surfaced.
The man behind the wheel of the striking SUV is in the country illegally, police said.
Police and rescue crews were called at 8:16 a.m. to the Sonic Soft Carwash at 14109 Jefferson Davis Highway, after a 2006 Jeep SUV pulled out of the car wash bay, accelerated, then entered a hard left turn, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.
Then the driver collided with an unoccupied 2004 Infinity SUV, where witnesses to the crash on Sunday said two female employees were using hand towels to dry the water off the Infinity.
According to the official police account released Monday, it was a man and a woman the driver hit - a 48-year-old woman from Stafford and a 20-year-old man from Woodbridge, police say.
Both were flown to an area hospital where they are expected to make a full recovery, said Perok.
But after the crash the driver jumped out of the car, took off his shirt and ran from the scene, said witnesses.
The man, who police say is an employee of the carwash, returned to the scene and was arrested, said Perok.
Afterwards it was determined the man is an illegal immigrant, police say.
Miguel Stanley Aguirre-Casoverde, 19, of 13588 Lynn Street in Woodbridge, is charged with hit and run and with reckless driving, said Perok.
He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 6, and was held on a $6,000 bond.
Witnesses on Sunday also said a third person appeared to have been hit, but Monday’s police report did not indicate a third victim.
Police on Sunday did not return requests for comment on this story.
