STAFFORD — Stafford County Supervisor Susan Stimpson, R-Falmouth, took issue Tuesday with electoral board member Doug Filler’s vacation plans.
Or more specifically, his intention on not returning for the primary due to those plans.
Filler is the only democrat on the electoral board, and ran against Stimpson for the Falmouth seat in 2009.
Following the meeting, Filler sent a letter to Stimpson saying that he indeed will return for the primary, but told her that her remarks were managing to misdirect attention to the one problem Stafford residents are facing — that “nearly 25 percent of Stafford voters who received erroneous polling place directions in the recent mailing from the State Board of Elections, and the likelihood that many hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of general election voters will report to an incorrect or closed polling location on November 8.”
“Nonetheless, it is clear that the decision of the Electoral Board to eliminate 25 years of election experience by dismissing Sharon Persinger (followed by the resignation of two key staff members with nearly 15 years of additional first-hand experience) may well have deprived the Registrar's office of the ability to identify this problem in time to correct it,” he stated in the letter.
Additionally, the new county Registrar Greg Riddlemoser was on hand at the board meeting to address concerns. He assured the board that things were under control.
The Primary Election takes place Tuesday.
