Honor victims, remove misconception
We are approaching the 10th anniversary of the unfortunate and sad incident of 9/11 which took lives of thousands of innocent Americans and left their families and friends bereaved. In addition to disturbing the peace of our society, it also created a negative image of Islam on many Americans for whom perhaps it may well be the first introduction of Islam, and which was a horrifying one.
No religion can ever teach hatred and violence in its name. But Muslims in America need to portray from their words and actions that they believe, practice and promote peace, in order to nullify the negative image of Islam created due to acts of extremists. A recent effort by Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in this regard is a campaign launched to honor the victims of 9/11 and uphold the message that Islam values the sanctity of human life. The goal is to collect 10,000 units of blood working in collaboration with other organizations (muslimsforlife.org). I hope such efforts will help in removing the misconceptions about Islam and I also hope that we and our generations always witness peace, Amen.
