STAFFORD —Five candidates seeking a seat on the Stafford County School Board planned to go head to head Wednesday.
The winner replaces Garrisonville District member Ty Schieber , who left for a seat on the Stafford County Board of Supervisors. Schieber took on the position as an acting supervisor after Mark Dudenhefer, R-Garrisonville, left his position early to become a delegate in the second district.
Schieber then won the supervisor’s position in a vote.
At press time, five candidates were competing for a seat on the board including Tonya Harris, a principal; Nanette Kidby, who previously served on the school board; Sylvester Mitchell, a U.S. Army security specialist; Al Martin, a retired U.S. Marine Corps officer who now works with Wounded Warriors; and Laura Sellers, who has served as chair of the county’s Democratic Committee.
A public interview of the candidates was planned to take place Wednesday at 5 p.m.
By next month, a candidate is expected to be chosen.
The school board can also hold a special election for the rest of Schieber’s unfulfilled term.
