A Fredericksburg police captain faces charges in Stafford County after authorities say he picked up a Fairfax teen and took him to a hotel.
According to Stafford County Sheriff's spokesman Bill Kennedy, deputies found a 17-year-old walking along Warrenton Road on Saturday.
He reportedly told the deputies he locked himself out of a Motel 6 room but the man who paid for the room, later identified as Brent Mitchell Taylor, was coming back.
When Taylor returned to the motel, deputies were waiting.
Kennedy says the investigation revealed Taylor and the teen made contact over the internet, and Taylor picked the teen up in Fairfax without his parents' permission.
According to Kennedy, Taylor was charged with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a class 1 misdemeanor. He was released on a summons.
Taylor, who has been with Fredericksburg city police for 24 years, is the captain of the detective division, according to police spokesman Natatia Bledsoe.
Bledsoe said the Stafford County Sheriff's office alerted them Saturday morning and city police have been cooperating with the investigation.
Bledsoe said Taylor is on administrative leave with pay while the investigation continues.
