State police recover stolen car
FREDERICKSBURG — The Virginia State Police recovered a stolen vehicle in Spotsylvania County that was stolen from the Walmart parking lot in Central Park early in the morning Jan. 11, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department.
The victim did not report the theft for nine hours, police said.
She had borrowed the car from an auto dealership and left the keys in them in the car, according to a police report.
Man arrested for thefts at churches
STAFFORD — A 24-year-old man has been arrested for thefts that occurred recently at three Stafford County churches.
Bryan Christopher Stevens, of no fixed address, was charged with three counts of breaking and entering, three counts of grand larceny, obstruction of justice, unlawful entry and theft of services, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said Jan. 13.
The thefts occurred starting in January of this year.
Evidence in the area linked Stevens to the thefts from the three churches — Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Ramoth Baptist Church and North Stafford Church of Christ — police said. Among items stolen from the churches were gift cards, cash, computers, a camera and flat-screen TVs, police said.
Woman leaves baby in car, arrested
FREDERICKSBURG — A woman shopping at a Fredericksburg Walmart was arrested Jan. 12 because police said she left her baby in her vehicle while in the store.
Emma Okyere, 37, of Stafford, was arrested for felony child neglect just before 10:30 a.m. at the Walmart at 1800 Carl D. Silver Parkway in Fredericksburg.
Cars vandalized at Central Park movie theater
FREDERICSKBURG — A woman reported her car to be vandalized at Regal Cinemas in Central Park on Tuesday evening, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department.
She reported her rear window smashed and several items stolen from her car.
Additional victims reported similar incidences.
Man attempts contact with 10-year-old girl
NORTH STAFFORD — Deputies are looking for a suspicious person who attempted contact with a young girl on the morning of Jan. 13, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
A 10-year-old girl was riding her bike on Nugent Drive in North Stafford when a man in a white van called to her, “Hey, come over here.” She declined, police said.
A parent called in the incident the next day.
The suspect is a white man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
Copper wire stolen from Falmouth Elementary School
FALMOUTH — About $8,700 of copper wire was stolen from Falmouth Elementary School sometime between Jan. 14-16, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
The school, located on Forbes Street in Falmouth, is under renovation. About $8,500 of wire was stolen from within the building and another $200 of it was taken from an onsite trailer, police said.
Appliances stolen from house under construction
STAFFORD — Several appliances were stolen from a house under construction on Rye Creek Drive in Stafford sometime between Jan. 15-16, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
A microwave oven, dishwasher, oven range and a dishwasher were reported to be taken from the site. All items are valued in excess of $2,500.
Woman reports identification theft
FREDERICKSBURG — A Fredericksburg woman reported an identification theft from Dec. 27-Jan. 16, according to the Fredericksburg City Police Department.
She reported that several items had been purchased online with her debit card information although the card never left her possession, police said.
Car stolen, recovered
FREDERICKBURG — A resident reported his car stolen from the 200 block of Hunter Street in Fredericksburg sometime between Jan. 12-13, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department.
The car was later discovered undamaged at the corner of Charles and Bridgewater streets in the city, police said.
Missing senior found safe
FREDERICKSBURG — Missing Fredericksburg senior Gilbert Wood was found safe early on the morning of Jan. 13 in Loveville, Md., according to the Fredericksburg Police Department.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to a convenience store around 5 a.m. to check on an elderly man who appeared confused. The deputy confirmed the identity of Wood and notified the Fredericksburg Police Department immediately.
Wood was not in any medical distress, police said. His car was found in the parking lot of the store.
Wood was transported to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office until family members could arrive to meet him.
He was last seen at Mill Park Terrace Apartments in the 2200 block of Caroline Street in Fredericksburg on Jan.11 around 11 a.m. He was reported missing that night by a friend who lives in the apartment complex. Wood suffers from a heart condition and dementia, and left his medication behind, police said.
Two linked to Dale City burglary
DALE CITY — A Stafford teen faces burglary charges in connection with a Jan. 2 break-in and auto theft, police said.
Officers say the 17-year-old, whose identity was not released, and Christopher Laquan Whitaker, 18, of no fixed address, stole three televisions, a laptop and two gaming consoles, valued at $2,000, from a home in the 5000 block of Kapp Lane in Dale City, between 2 p.m. Jan. 1 and 2 a.m. Jan. 2, Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.
A resident at the home told police a red four-door 2000 Nissan Xterra was also stolen from the driveway.
The teen was charged with possession of stolen property, Perok said.
The U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force found Whitaker at a home in Washington, D.C. and he was charged with possession of stolen property, Perok said.
Whitaker was held without bond.
