STAFFORD — Young Chefs Academy recently took five of its Master Chef students to the 2009 Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show in Washington, D.C. where they met cooking extraordinaire Paula Deen.

Deen shared some cooking tips with the group, and they inquired about her favorite recipe. In turn, she shared memories of eating deep-fried cinnamon rolls on a stick.

The students on the trip ranged in age from 7 to 14, according to a press release from Young Chefs Academy in Stafford. The group was able to watch demonstrations specialty food companies, caterers, stationers, personal chefs and party planners while on the trip.

“The Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show was such a great experience for the students,” said Brandy Benito, director of operations at Young Chefs Academy. Now they can’t wait to get back in the kitchen and try creating recipes of their own.”

Stafford’s academy is a franchise among 20 across the United States and Canada. Stafford’s location is on Shenandoah Lane off of Garrisonville Road.

There will be an open house to celebrate the location’s opening Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call (540) 720-KIDZ or visit youngchefsacademy.com.
