Snellings responds to opponent’s claims

HARTWOOD — Republican Gary Snellings, currently running for the Stafford County Board of Supervisors in the Hartwood District, said Tuesday that his opponent, incumbent Joe Brito, has taken too much credit for county accomplishments.
At a recent event at the Sports Booth on Sept. 25, Brito cited the board’s accomplishments in bringing Stafford Hospital, a new Wal-mart on Warrenton Road, the ownership of three fire stations, a new Lowe’s, the approval of an assisted-living facility in Berea, and the procurement of 100 acres for the Rocky Run dam site.
But Snellings said he feels that Brito is giving the current board a bit too much credit.
“He’s doing it everywhere,” said Snellings. “It seems every good thing that happened down the pike he’s taking credit for.”
The deal for the Super Wal-Mart was done before 2002, Snellings said.
Rocky Pen? “He did everything he could to stop it,” Snellings noted.
Funds for the Berea and Courthouse fire stations were approved in 2005, once again, when Snellings was in office, he said. Snellings also cited Brito’s approval of a 22 percent pay raise that the board voted to give themselves by a 4-3 margin.
“That’s one thing I will give him credit for,” said Snellings. “He’s been taking credit for a lot. That’s what he’s been doing.”

I give Joe Brito credit for doing his homework. He has been a very studious supervisor. That is in contrast to the former Hartwood supervisor, Mr. Snellings himself, who never seemed to have anything more than a surface understanding of what was going on. The only thing he regularly talked about was taxes, always in a negative way, without showing any real depth of understanding.
