Police: Man tried to have sex with 13-year-old relative
Stafford police recently arrested a 69-year-old Delaware man and charged him with one count of solicitation and manufacturing of child pornography and two counts of attempted indecent liberties with a juvenile, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
George Louis Woodrum of 2660 Forest Ave., Dover, Del., was arrested Nov. 12. He is incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail, a press release states.
In early October, Stafford Detective Darrell Wells began investigating a case involving a 13-year-old girl who lives in Stafford County, the sheriff’s office reported.
The teen’s mother told Wells that Woodrum, who is related to the girl, had been asking her daughter inappropriate questions, the release states.
At that point, with parental permission, Detective Wells assumed the identity of the teen on e-mail exchanges with Woodrum. Woodrum began to ask for sexually explicit pictures as well as requesting to have sex with the teen, the sheriff’s office reported.
Last week, George Woodrum traveled from his home in Delaware to the teen’s home in Stafford County to have — what he thought would be — sex with the 13-year-old, police reported. Stafford County Sheriff’s Office personnel were at the home when he arrived and Woodrum was immediately taken into custody.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is asking that if anyone has been approached by Woodrum in relationship to the above listed charges to contact the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 658-4400 or the Delaware State Police at (302) 697-2104, Ext. 309.
In a release, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office reminded county residents of the danger of sexual predators who travel the Internet trying to contact potential victims. If any resident is contacted in this manner, they are asked to call the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
