President announces resignation

FREDERICKSBURG — The University of Mary Washington announced Tuesday that Rick Hurley, executive vice president and chief financial officer at UMW, will postpone his retirement plans in the wake of UMW President Judy Hample’s resignation last week.

New staff members include: Deb Siekirski, Assistant Education and Disabilities Coordinator; Teachers, Colleen Pataky, Michelle Burns, and Jocelyn Thomas; Paraprofessionals, Stefanie Holder, Kristen Kendall, and Angelia James; Family Service Workers, Ann Margaret Capo and Stacey Chavira; Parent Involvement Assistant, Whitney Shelton; and ERSEA Coordinator, Meh DeAlmeida.

STAFFORD — An unrecorded school transaction from 2007 is the answer to how more than $6 million was found unaccounted for in a shared Stafford County bank account this past summer.

The annual listing of “America’s Best Colleges” has given new bragging rights to Virginia schools.

BLACKSBURG — David Seay, a graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in political science was inducted into the Virginia Tech chapter of Phi Beta Delta Honor Society.

The Ferry Farm Reading Center ended the school year with three special celebrations for students who read Virginia Readers’ Choice books throughout the year from grades K-5.

AUBURN, Ala. — Elizabeth A. Lantz recently graduated magna cum laude from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine earning a doctor of veterinary medicine degree.

ASHLAND, Ohio — Katlyn Chaney of Stafford received the Foster and Jane James Endowed Scholarship at Ashland University.

STAFFORD — The University of Mary Washington celebrated its spring graduates Saturday, when about 5,000 people gathered in Ball Circle in Fredericksburg for the occasion.
