Softball player signs with ASU

Meghan Smith, of Mountain View High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Appalacian State University.

STAFFORD — Meghan Smith of Mountain View High School has reportedly signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Appalachian State University (ASU).

The softball player signed Nov. 19 in a ceremony at Mountain View. 

Smith received a full athletic scholarship/grant-in-aid to play softball for the ASU Mountaineers, according to a press release.

ASU is located in Boone, N.C., is a Division I Program and a member of the Southern Conference.

Smith was named to the 2008 All State 1st Team and was named the 2008 Coaches Softball Player of the Year in the Commonwealth District. Additionally, Smith plays for the Virginia Shamrocks 18 Gold Travel Team.

She has played softball throughout the United States and Japan.
