Five burning questions

North Stafford High School tennis standouts Kyle Boes, 18, and Jake Rasmussen, 17, have taken their team 7-7 this season, with a final regular-season win over Massaponax. The team went on to play its first playoff game at home against Brooke Point High School. The final score was not known at press time.

1. How did you become involved in the sport?
KB - I’ve playing since I was little. I picked a sport and wanted to be good at it; I sucked in soccer so tennis seemed to be the way to go.
JR - “I started playing the summer before my freshmen year, and my dad played in high school and he got me into it.”

2. Do you perceive yourself as a role model?
KB - I try to do the right thing, try to take practice seriously, but I guess I'm not the one to ask about the role model question, though.
JR - “I feel like the sophomores and some of my friends look up to me for helping their strokes.”

3. What are your college plans?
KB - I’m going to Virginia Tech in the fall, and I'll probably play for the club team.
JR - “I am looking to play in college. Hopefully I will make it into a D1 school for tennis.”

4.How do you keep focused?
KB - “You have to know how to manage your time.”
JR - “It’s really hard because matches are right after school, so you have set your priorities on what’s important. It usually works out pretty good.”

5. Do you believe that men are from Mars and women are from Venus?
KB - “Yes, 100 percent. Girls are completely different.”
JR - “When you’re taking about tennis, I’d have to say so because girls don’t have as much power in their game as we do.”
