North Stafford at Colonial Forge
Friday 10/9 at 7:30 p.m.
This will be the second consecutive road game for North Stafford. The last one didn’t go so well as they had planned. Gary Pisall riddled the Wolverines defense for more than 300 yards passing, as host Brooke Point handed them their first defeat of 2009. The team they’ll try to bounce back against isn’t any pushover, either. Colonial Forge has won three straight, the latest coming in a 56-21 win at Albemarle. Quarterback Blake Frohnapfel is among the Commonwealth District’s top 10 in passing yards and touchdowns, while brother Eric is one of the league’s premiere wide receivers.

Brooke Point at Massapanox
Friday 10/9 at 7:30 p.m.
Behind Gary Pisall, Brooke Point took down North Stafford 28-9 and improved to 2-0 in the Commonwealth District. The senior quarterback piloted the Black-Hawks’ spread offense to the tune of 325 passing yards on 15-of-24 and three touchdowns. Alex Figueroa didn’t reach the end zone, but he was responsible for 121 yards receiving on just three catches. The Brooke Point defense was solid as well, holding the Wolverines to just one touchdown drive — that coming when the score was 21-3. Massaponax looked dominant last weekend against Stafford. The Panthers, now 4-1, saw its only loss come by a 28-27 margin to Colonial Forge.

Washington Wizards vs. Dallas Mavericks
Friday 10/9 at 7 p.m.
Expectations are higher with the hiring of Wizards’ head coach Flip Saunders and the hope that Gilbert Arenas, Antwan Jamison and Caron Butler are healthy for the full run of the season. The Wiz will play their second preseason game against the Mavericks.

Washington Redskins at Carolina Panthers
Sunday 10/11 at 1 p.m.
The sigh of relief could be heard throughout the Washington, D.C metro area. The Redskins, after a dreadful first half on offense, recovered to nip the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16-13 on Sunday afternoon at FedEx Field. Their third straight game against a winless squad will come this weekend against a Panthers team that won the NFC South in 2008.
